For me, this is one of the most magical places to visit in the North York Moors National Park.  It has a depth of stillness that has a profound effect.......

Steeped in history and still-present spiritual energy, Rievaulx was once the most important monastic sites in Britain. It drew kings to visit.

Since we're on the eve of the King's coronation - it seemed fitting to explore the environs of Rievaulx and the ruined abbey itself.

But we'll do it differently.

I'll take you on a slow meander (by foot) around ancient woodlands belonging to this ancient valley. You'll learn about

The valley still retains a strong, spiritual energy left over from

Let us take you on paths less trodden to reveal stunning scenery and one of the best views of a spectacular, monastic site. Hidden in a breathtaking valley, Rievaulx Abbey and its natural surroundings is a feast for the eyes. Fringed by ancient woodlands rich in plant life, the location is a nature-lovers heaven.

You'll walk where monks once trod. Discover why they chose to base themselves deep in the North York Moors away from civilisation. You'll experiment walking in contemplative silence in places - a bit like a monk would have done.

Part of their practise involved being aware of everything around them, including the natural world. They were deeply connected with their environment and held it with reverence. Here's an opportunity to sample a bit of what that might have been like, while immersing yourself in nature.

And after soaking up the calm atmosphere, we're sure you'll leave feeling amazing.

Why not spend longer here and explore the area too? There's so much to see here in North York Moors National Park. And there are lots of other walks to explore too, including the iconic Cleveland Way which runs through Rievaulx village.
